Outreach
Mid-Hudson Young Environmental Scientists (MH-YES) Scientist mentor.
I am a faculty mentor for the MH-YES program, a course where high school students from our community (Dutchess County) are provided the opportunity to engage in field research on local watersheds. These students, typically from groups underrepresented in STEM, learn terrestrial and aquatic components of the watershed. Research is primarily based around the Fall Kill Creek in Poughkeepsie. The goal is to over transformative experiences to high school students that will pique their interest in environmental science.
Office of Community Engaged Learning (OCEL) Advisory Board
The OCEL is tasked with transitioning to critical pedagogy, where the role of placed-based work and connection to justice is exploded. As part of my role on the advisory board, I work to shift the perception of Poughkeepsie within the Vassar community and support different perspectives.
